To reflect growing opportunities in Rehabilitation Sciences, 黑料网 is launching a new MSc in Exercise Rehabilitation in Autumn 2024.
This flexible programme will enable you to develop fundamental knowledge, understanding and skills across all aspects of rehabilitation sciences in an exercise context, before giving you the opportunity to specialise in musculoskeletal rehabilitation or rehabilitation for non-communicable (chronic) diseases.
You will have the chance to gain practice-based experience, as well as undertake an independent research project to address a scientific question or real-life issue.
You will also benefit from the research expertise and facilities available on campus, including in the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine-East Midlands, and at the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) at Stanford Hall which is expected to open in 2025.

Our Exercise Rehabilitation MSc is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to work safely and effectively in a clinical/medical exercise rehabilitation setting or wider exercise and fitness industry context.
Compulsory
Research Methods and Project Preparation (30 credits)
The aims of the module are to:
- develop an understanding of the philosophical and methodological underpinnings of the research process and a critical and practical understanding of different research methods, designs and of selected data analysis techniques and procedures relevant to Sport or Exercise Rehabilitation Sciences
- Apply knowledge and acquire the research skills to be able to identify and develop a suitable research proposal in preparation for carrying out a project relevant to their MSc programme.
Rehabilitation Sciences (30 credits)
The aims of the module are to:
- develop a broad but comprehensive knowledge and understanding of rehabilitation sciences including of the general functions, context and management of rehabilitation and rehabilitation services, and of the fundamental considerations, issues and scientific principles underpinning sport and exercise rehabilitation specifically
- be introduced to the role of rehabilitation and strength and conditioning in the treatment and recovery from musculoskeletal injury, in the treatment of chronic diseases, as well as in specific population groups.

Professional and Reflective Practice in Exercise Rehabilitation (30 credits)
This module aims to provide students with the practical knowledge and skills required to support the exercise rehabilitation of injured, ill and/or patient groups and critically reflect upon and develop their own professional practice.
Optional modules
Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation and Injury Management (30 credits)
The aim of this module is to provide students with the knowledge, understanding, and skills to be able to programme and deliver musculoskeletal exercise rehabilitation and injury management activities safely and effectively across a range of musculoskeletal injuries and disorders.
Exercise Rehabilitation for Chronic Diseases (30 credits)
The aim of this module is for students to:
- develop detailed knowledge and understanding of the key scientific principles and range of considerations associated with the exercise rehabilitation of specific non communicable disease populations
- be able to apply their knowledge and understanding and develop the skills to effectively support the exercise rehabilitation process and the recovery of patients diagnosed with non communicable diseases.

Research project in rehabilitation sciences (60 credits)
The aim of this module is for students to design, conduct and report on an original research study relevant to their MSc programme and chosen pathway in Sport or Exercise Rehabilitation.

The NCSEM is an Olympic legacy project delivering education, research and clinical services in sport, exercise and physical activity. It aims to apply world-class expertise to policies and practice that will benefit the health and wellbeing of the nation – from everyday people at risk of ill health through to elite athletes.
The NRC, expected to open to patients in 2025, will transform outcomes for people who have suffered potentially life-changing injury, trauma or illness, by fully integrating research, innovation, education and training with clinical practice.

Applicants from colleges affiliated to universities which are 251-500 in the Shanghai rankings will be considered if they have achieved or are likely to achieve final marks of 80%-87%.
Applicants from colleges affiliated to universities which are above 500 in the Shanghai rankings will be considered as follows:
- School of Business and Economics: not considered
- All other programmes if they have achieved or are likely to achieve final marks of 80%-87%.
Universities given special consideration
Applicants from a small number of Chinese universities that specialise in business, management, finance or creative arts will be given special consideration by the University. The full list of these universities and the Shanghai band under which they will be considered can be found below:

The fee stated is for a full-time student undertaking a master’s programme of 180 credits. Part-time students, or those taking a postgraduate certificate or a postgraduate diploma, should divide the published fee by 180 credits and then multiply by the number of credits they are taking to calculate their tuition fees.
