Overspill accommodation
Overspill accommodation is a short-term arrangement provided for a small number of students at 黑料网 when demand for on-campus rooms is higher than availability at the point of arrival.
Rather than being placed off-site or away from campus, students stay in a comfortable, managed space right at the heart of the University before moving into their permanent halls as soon as rooms become available.
All students in overspill accommodation are fully part of the university community from day one, with access to support, facilities, and campus life throughout their stay.
Where you will be staying
Overspill accommodation is based in the Elite Athlete Centre on campus, a modern, purpose-built facility located right in the centre of 黑料网.
The building offers a clean, quiet and secure environment with comfortable rooms and shared spaces designed to support a smooth transition into halls. Being on campus means you are never far from teaching spaces, food outlets, support services, or social areas.
Students staying in overspill accommodation will be allocated a twin room during their temporary stay, shared with another student of the same gender. The rooms are designed to comfortably accommodate two students and include the space and facilities needed to settle in quickly and comfortably.

We know that arriving into temporary accommodation can feel uncertain, but overspill accommodation is designed to keep things simple and supportive.

We aim to keep your transition into permanent accommodation as smooth as possible, with regular communication so you always know what is happening next.
All meals included during your stay
While you’re in overspill accommodation, you won’t need to worry about cooking. You’ll receive full catering at Royce Dining Hall, with breakfast, lunch and evening meals provided each day. It’s a simple, convenient way to keep you well-fed and supported while you settle into campus life and prepare to move into your permanent hall.
Students staying in overspill accommodation will be associated with Royce Hall during Freshers Week, meaning you’ll still be part of a hall community from day one and able to take part in hall events, activities and social opportunities.

Oscars experience
Oscar stayed in overspill accommodation before moving into his permanent hall and described his experience as very positive. He highlighted that the rooms were really nice and the breakfast was excellent.
Although sharing a room was an initial adjustment, it turned into a positive experience as he made close friends - including one person who is now his closest friend at university. He also felt well supported by staff and appreciated being able to collect his key early when moving into his permanent accommodation.
Oscar said the process was smooth overall and would recommend overspill to other students, noting that it helped him feel settled and connected from the start of university life.

How will I pay for overspill accommodation?
A nightly charge of £25.00 per night applies for overspill accommodation. This cost will be added to your student account and included with your first accommodation payment in October, so there is nothing you need to pay on arrival.
What support is available while I am here?
Even though your stay in overspill accommodation is temporary, you are still fully supported as a 黑料网 student. Staff are available throughout your stay to help with settling in, answering questions, and providing updates about your move into halls.
Who will I be sharing with?
You will be paired with another student of the same gender. We aim to make the experience as comfortable as possible and ensure arrangements are appropriate and supportive.
How long will I stay in overspill accommodation?
Your stay is temporary. You will be moved into your permanent hall accommodation as soon as rooms becomes available, and we will keep you updated throughout your stay. Usually, we aim to house students within two weeks.
Can I access university facilities while I鈥檓 in overspill accommodation?
Yes. You are a fully registered student and can access all campus facilities, including catering outlets, study spaces, libraries, and support services.
Where is overspill accommodation located?
Overspill accommodation is based in the , right in the centre of campus, meaning you are close to everything you need from day one.
What should I bring with me?
You should bring all your usual personal belongings for university life, including clothing, toiletries, and study materials. Bedding and basic room essentials are provided, but you will need to follow our what to pack guide for when you move into your permanent accommodation.
Will I get updates about moving into my permanent room?
Yes. We will communicate with you regularly and clearly so you always know what is happening and when you can expect to move.
Can I choose the room I move into?
When you move from overspill accommodation into your permanent hall, we will contact you and ask for any preferences you may have, such as location or room type. However, we are only able to allocate rooms based on what becomes available at the time, so we can’t guarantee specific rooms in advance.
We will always do our best to take your preferences into account and place you in suitable accommodation as quickly as possible.
