Educational design and evaluation
The educational design and evaluation theme designs, develops and evaluates pedagogical interventions, based on a rigorous understanding of students’ learning processes.
It contributes to debates across education about the ways in which evidence informs practice.
We research how mathematics tasks, lessons and curricula may be designed and implemented in classrooms in schools and colleges to support students’ learning of mathematics.
Our specific aims are:
- (i) to design, trial and improve high-quality classroom tasks and lessons informed by the best-available research evidence,
- (ii) to conduct methodological research on educational evaluation, with a particular focus on randomised controlled trials (RCTs), and
- (iii) to research how the results of RCTs and other research can be more effectively communicated to teachers, schools and policy makers.
