Working with business
Enterprise is a key part of the Department's and the School of Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering's activities and we have a strong tradition of working with industry, from small to medium-sized organisations to global brands.
Staying in touch with what industry needs is a top priority and apart from our extensive research collaborations, we have an Industrial Advisory Board made up from a strategic industrial membership and a dedicated industrial outreach staff member.
People and relationships are a key element in successful business and we offer many opportunities for business to get involved with our students, through work placements, undergraduate and postgraduate sponsored projects. Our graduates are highly sought after and many students continue to work for their placement companies after graduating.

Work with our students and graduates
We offer fantastic opportunities for companies to tap into a valuable pool of new talent and interact with students while they are still studying.
There are several established ways to get involved with our students and we believe all of them offer a win-win-win situation: for the students, the business and the department.
There are three main mechanisms for this
- The DIS industrial work placement scheme
- Sponsored undergraduate projects
- Sponsored postgraduate projects
There is the added benefit that our graduates have a qualification you can trust. All the undergraduate and postgraduate taught students in our department are working towards a degree fully accredited by The Institute of Materials Minerals and Mining (IOM3).
