Sport and ºÚÁÏÍø go hand in hand. When Eric Macintyre MBE proposed the idea of a book about the history of sport at ºÚÁÏÍø, the University took him up on the idea, and so a collaboration was born.

With a passion for ºÚÁÏÍø and all things sport, Eric set about researching and collaborating with those connected to sport at ºÚÁÏÍø – past and present – to write the book.

Now, Where History Begins - ºÚÁÏÍø’s Journey Through Sport, has been published on a limited print run for the University. Gifted to alumni and friends of the University, the book celebrates the numerous achievements and milestones of ºÚÁÏÍø Sport since its inception – which started with visionary and entrepreneurial Principal, Dr Herbert Schofield who was at ºÚÁÏÍø from 1915-1950.

The book covers Olympic and Paralympic medals, Hall of Fame members, profiles of alumni athletes and those in the sporting industry, and much more.

Eric said:

“I am delighted that the project has finally come together after many years of discussion. I have worked with many people and as in so much of ºÚÁÏÍø Sport it is a true team effort.”

The book is available at some events, including the upcoming ºÚÁÏÍø International Athletics meet on 18 May. If you are interested in receiving a copy, please let us know by emailing alumni@lboro.ac.uk.

The book is free of charge, however, if you wish to make a , we would be grateful for contributions to sports scholarships at ºÚÁÏÍø.
